Will the iBook be Refreshed Soon?
I know I’ve been blabbering here and there about a possible ibook refresh and my personal iBook refresh wishlist. But I really think it’s coming soon. Why?

You’ll notice that as of today, the estimated ship time increased from "same day" to "5-7 business days". This usually happens right before they release the new models (the same tactic happened when they updated the iMacs, and the iPod mini’s). So I’m betting on Monday or Tuesday, we will be looking at brand new iBooks.
But what will they look like?? Surely they will wait to redesign the look and feel when they move to Intel proc’s (kinda like a refresh of the body AND the mind). Guess we will find out soon.

So, with the estimated ship time increased, does that mean anyone who orders an iBook now will get a new machine? Or, more specifically, someone who ordered it a day before reading about all these refresh rumors

Back when I ordered an iPod mini, they did a refresh on those iPods. Instead of upgrading my order, they just discounted my existing order. I ended up paying $179 for the a 4gig Pink iPod mini (birthday present for my wife).
Anything could happen, but I doubt your order would be upgraded to the new machine…

Thanks for the feedback… I called Apple, and they informed me that, provided the iBook doesn’t ship beforehand, if there is a refresh they will e-mail me and give me the option to take the refresh at the same price. Since my estimated ship date is “on or before 8/04/05,” and the rumor is that they’ll be updated this Tuesday, I’ll take the chance that it won’t be shipped in the next two (business) days.
The iPod 4 gig was not discontinued when they were refreshed, they just went down in price and added the 6 GB model, so that is probably why they discounted your order and didn’t upgrade.
Thanks again for your input!
